Hobos

Hobos are a slouchy, unstructured type of handbag that is very popular with women of all age brackets. The bag is shaped like a crescent and droops in the center. Sizes, which vary from medium to oversized, are designed to hold a profusion of items beyond the basic wallet, keys, cell phone and lipstick. There is only one spacious center compartment that closes on the top, although some models may have a small interior or exterior compartment.

Large hobo bags will hold everything from a magazine and water bottle, to a shawl and miniature netbook, making them ideal for a busy day at school or an overnight trip. Hobos have one shoulder strap, many of which are adjustable, allowing the user the option of having the bag sit higher under the arm and closer to the body, or lower at hip level, for a more casual look. Soft, pliable fabrics including leather, suede, canvas and cotton are commonly used.
