Being travelers ourselves, we know that it is easy to catch a travel bug when we are away for work or play. There have been lots of media reports in recent days tracking the new Swine Flu outbreak that appears to have originated in Mexico. Cases so far have been mild in the U.S. and fairly isolated.
The U.S. State Department has advised against all nonessential travel to Mexico. The hope of the State Department is to contain the spread of the virus as much as it can while the Center for Disease Control works on a vaccine. There is no outright travel ban because of the Swine Flu. Travelers need to make sure they take the standard precautions like covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze, washing your hands frequently and staying home if you don’t feel well to minimize your exposure.
I’m not a doctor and I certainly don’t want to scare people. Just make sure you are doing the basic things to keep yourself healthy while traveling and being aware of the situation is a great place to start.
