Is this considered a carry-on and fit in the upper compartment on a plane?
Yes, this item is considered to be a carry on. This bag measure out to 38 linear inches and the standard carry on guideline for most airlines is 45 linear inches. It should also fit in the overhead bins without a problem. There may be a issue on some smaller planes, but for the most part I think it will be fine. -

Just what I needed
PROS: Just got this to replace a rolling briefcase I had worn out. I didn't want to spend too much as it will really get beat up going back and forth to school. I mostly wanted a way to carry papers and books back and forth without killing my back. It holds my "always need" items comfortably as well as the always changing stacks of papers that need to be graded or lessons to be planned.
CONS: Would have been nice to include a key clip inside for extra security. I don't take a purse in to school and would like to clip my car keys safely inside the briefcase in the spot every day where they can be easily located.
